H.R. 3134 - Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015

The Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015, which passed the House on September 18, 2015, would place an immediate one-year moratorium on all federal funding to the abortion business while Congress investigates it.

The funding moratorium would cover any and all federal sources of revenue for Planned Parenthood including the Title X family planning program and Medicaid. A Government Accountability Office study released in 2015 found that Planned Parenthood received $1.2 billion from Medicaid over a three-year period.

The Defund Planned Parenthood Act would also authorize and appropriate an additional $235 million to the community health center program, with the stipulation that none of the money go to facilities that perform abortions.

H.R. 3134 was introduced immediately after videos were released by the Center for Medical Progress showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing the procurement of aborted babies’ organs and tissues and the fees involved for purchasing those body parts.
