TITUSVILLE, FL -- Reacting to comments vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance made on Meet the Press Sunday - predicting that former President Donald Trump would veto a national abortion ban should one make it to his desk in a second term - Priests for Life National Director Frank Pavone issued the following statement:

“Once again, the Trump-hating left-wing media are raising questions on abortion that are disconnected from reality. We in the pro-life movement have to see through this. This is an election campaign. In reality, Congress is not going to send a national abortion ban to the president’s desk in the next term. With the filibuster in place, and so many politicians afraid of this issue, it will not happen. However, an unborn baby protected now in about half the states is just as protected as he or she would be under a national ban.

“And President Trump supports that. In fact, he made it possible. Kamala Harris, Tim Walz and the Democrat party would not want to allow any state to protect that unborn child. Pro-life people need to focus on electing Trump, not on an academic question that the president will not face.”
