TITUSVILLE, FL -- Priests for Life National Director Frank Pavone issued the following statement today after the Wisconsin Supreme Court decided that a pre-Roe law protecting most babies from abortion had been “impliedly repealed” by the state legislature.

“Whatever subsequent legislative activity has done to this long-standing law, it’s time for both Wisconsin and America to go back to the reasons why those laws were passed in the 19th century. It was because of the growing awareness of science as to how a new human life begins in the womb. Knowing more about those early human lives led a nation with a good conscience towards giving them more and more protection.

“The irony of our times is that during the decades where we have learned more about life in the womb than we ever knew before, we are providing less protection than we ever did before.

“However, now with the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, Wisconsin - and in fact the whole nation - can take account of the scientific knowledge we have and decide to protect the unborn again. Wisconsin should legislate that way, as should the other 49 states and Congress.”
