Conservatives Urge Swift Action Against Left-Wing Violence

In the wake of the politically motivated assassination of Charlie Kirk and a growing prevalence of left-wing violence, conservatives call on Congress and the White House to take swift action to investigate, defund, and prosecute organizations that fund and promote these attacks.

 

Congressman Chip Roy, along with over forty of his colleagues, are requesting that House Republican leadership form a select committee with a mandate to investigate “the money, influence, and power behind the radical left’s assault on America and the rule of law.”

 

As the Roy letter notes, these terror activities have direct linkages to existing left-wing groups:

 

We have seen targets placed on the Family Research Council and Charlie Kirk by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) only to witness shootings toward each, including the tragic assassination of Charlie just this week, after being placed on the SPLC’s notorious “Hate Map” three months ago. We have seen dangerous networks like Antifa organize, fund, and deploy sophisticated terror campaigns attacking law enforcement and destroying American cities.

 

We have seen George Soros, the Wren Collective, and other radical organizations funding and putting in place District Attorneys and Judges to then coordinate releasing criminals to the streets. The result has been death and injury to thousands of Americans, including the recent horrifying murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska at the hands of a 14-time released criminal and lesser-known attacks like the shooting of San Antonio security guard and former Marine, Jimmy Friesenhahn, leaving him paralyzed.

 

We fully support this effort and ask that the select committee be given full funding, independent staff, and a wide investigative remit.

 

We also applaud the White House in taking steps to designate Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. In an Executive Order, President Trump directed his administration to “investigate, disrupt, and dismantle” individuals and groups associating themselves with Antifa, including “those who fund such operations.”

 

The American right is facing an existential and anti-American threat from those who think violence is an appropriate response to political disagreement. This cannot stand in a free country. We urge Congress, the White House, and all liberty-minded people to use all available resources to investigate, defund, dismantle, and where necessary, prosecute the networks responsible for funding and promoting terrorism against American citizens.
