Fr. Pavone salutes Republican governors, takes Democrats to task over pro-life legislation

TITUSVILLE, FL -- Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, released the following statement today about pro-life bills awaiting gubernatorial signatures in Tennessee and Oklahoma, and governors’ veto of laws to protect babies in Kansas, Wisconsin and North Carolina.

“State legislatures across the country continue to make strides to protect children in the womb from abortion and these bills become law based on one factor alone: The political party of the governor,” Father Pavone said. “Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, a Democrat, vetoed a law that would mandate that moms who take the first drug in a chemical abortion would have to be told that she still has a chance to save her baby. North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, a Democrat, vetoed a bill that would ensure life-saving care for babies who survive abortion, and Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, has promised to veto a similar bill in his state.

“The Democrat governors go to great lengths to avoid giving any protection to the youngest children. Instead, these governors do their best to show their allegiance to the abortion industry.”

Father Pavone also encouraged Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, both Republicans, who are expected to sign life-saving bills in their states.

“Thanks to pro-life activists and lawmakers in Oklahoma, moms who take the first deadly drug in a chemical abortion will learn about a medical protocol that can save their children, as it has saved 400 babies since 2007,” Father Pavone said. “And in Tennessee, the abomination of abortion will be outlawed if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade. On that great day, Tennessee will proudly join four other states – Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota and South Dakota – in proclaiming that all lives matter, including the lives of children in the womb.”

“We who want to protect children in the womb applaud the Republican party for showing a strong commitment to this cause. We appeal to voters in all 50 states to consider this when they vote: If a politician can’t respect the life of a little baby, how is he or she supposed to respect yours,” Father Pavone concluded.
