WASHINGTON, D.C. - Leaving the nation’s capital after two packed days of events surrounding the Supreme Court case June Medical Services vs. Russo, Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, made the following observations:
“I was very encouraged today to spend some time with Louisiana Solicitor General Liz Murrill, who argued the case before the Supreme Court this morning in support of Louisiana’s ‘Unsafe Abortion Protection Act,’ and also with Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry.
“These stalwart public servants, together with so many others in Louisiana, have led the way in showing America both how to pass and to defend laws that simply carry out something that Roe vs. Wade actually called for, namely, that states regulate abortion in such a way that maximizes the safety of the women who get them.”
Father Pavone and the Priests for Life team, along with women from the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, organized a pro-life rally outside Supreme Court on Tuesday along with the Justice Foundation and Operation Outcry, then attended a press conference at the National Press Club and helped to lead a night-time prayer service outside the court.
Today, Father Pavone was outside the Supreme Court during the course of the arguments, along with many other pro-life leaders who held a large rally. During the rally, he conducted interviews for EndAbortion.TV and Priests for Life’s other streaming channels. Among those he spoke with were Montana Republican Sen. Steve Daines; New Jersey Republican Rep. Chris Smith; National Right to Life President Carol Tobias; March for Life President Jeanne Mancini and Americans United for Life President and CEO Catherine Glenn Foster.
Father Pavone also attended a lunch with Attorney General Landry, Solicitor General Murrill, and various other attorneys who have helped on the case, and groups – including Priests for Life - who filed amicus briefs in support of Louisiana.
“Now we all know that ultimately, the only safe abortion is no abortion, and the only safe abortion clinic is a closed clinic,” he said. “But while these places of death remain open, and abortion remains legal, we must do all we can to protect mothers and babies, and that’s why we defend this law.

Priests for Life (EndAbortion.US) is the world’s largest Catholic pro-life organization dedicated exclusively to ending abortion. Pro-life efforts are working. The abortion rate in America is the lowest it has been since Roe v. Wade and in recent years states have passed more than 400 laws to protect the unborn. The number of freestanding abortion clinics in the U.S. has dropped from 2179 in 1991 down to 710 today, and President Trump has placed 187 (and counting) pro-life judges on the federal bench.
