TITUSVILLE, FL - Father Frank Pavone, President of the National Pro-Life Religious Council, today expressed the hope that all Christians and all people of faith in the United States would come together to pray for the nation during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
Father Pavone pointed out that then-Pope John Paul II, in a 1995 encyclical on Christian unity, wrote: “Many Christians from all Communities, by reason of their faith, are jointly involved in bold projects aimed at changing the world by inculcating respect for the rights and needs of everyone, especially the poor, the lowly, and the defenseless...Christians who once acted independently are now engaged together in the service of this cause, so that God's mercy may triumph."
Father Pavone said: “Authentic Christian unity does not mean pretending there are no serious doctrinal disagreements between denominations. It does mean working to come to a deeper understanding of what those differences are, as well as recognizing and building on the real unity that does exist in our common affirmation of Christ and his Lordship in our lives and in the world.”
The National Pro-Life Religious Council consists of denominations large and small across the entire spectrum of the body of Christ. Its mission is to articulate the historic Christian perspective on human life, including life in the womb.
The organization annually hosts a national prayer service in conjunction with the March for Life in D.C. but that has been canceled this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Even though we cannot come together physically,” said Father Pavone, who is also the national director of Priests for Life, “it is imperative that we come together in prayer for our nation and our world.”
Priests for Life (EndAbortion.US) is the world’s largest Catholic pro-life organization dedicated exclusively to ending abortion.
