Whatever the outcome in the Mississippi abortion case whose oral arguments will be heard Dec. 1 in the U.S. Supreme Court, the pro-life movement has the wind at its back.
This year’s protracted budget battle in Congress has given Americans ample time to discover that the Democrats in Congress and the White House do not care about American values, according to Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life.
“The Democrat spending plans represent an unprecedented effort to fund the abortion industry with taxpayers’ money,” Father Pavone said. “This has major implications for the 2022 midterm elections, as does the outcome of Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health. The court process is not the same as the political process, but it reflects it. This can be seen in the friend-of-the-court briefs filed by 228 members of Congress in favor of the Mississippi law. Never have so many members of Congress asked the Supreme Court to reverse Roe. Another brief was signed by hundreds of state lawmakers. These men and women were elected by pro-life people. Americans are rejecting abortion extremism wherever they encounter it.”
The Supreme Court will decide whether it can be constitutional to protect babies before they can survive outside the womb. The 1973 Roe v. Wade decision and the 1992 Planned Parenthood vs. Casey decision said it was not.
“If the Court finally abandons the extremism that the Roe decision represents, and gives the states the reasonable ability to legislate on abortion just as they do on any other procedure, that will not only be good news for the unborn, but also for pro-life candidates for public office,” Father Pavone said. “A pro-life position is a political plus; among voters who take the abortion issue into account, more vote pro-life than pro-abortion. Americans are clearly rejecting the Democrats’ abortion-expanding agenda by electing public servants who know the difference between serving the public and killing the public.”
Father Pavone and several pro-life leaders will discuss what’s at stake in Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health during a press conference at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30 in the Zenger Room of the National Press Club, 529 14th St. NW, Washington, D.C.
