“Why Roe Must Go”

Press Conference Tuesday at National Press Club to Review Key Arguments in Abortion Case and Their Political Implications in Midterms

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Priests for Life will host a press conference on “Why Roe Must Go” Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 9:30 a.m. in the Zenger Room of the National Press Club, 529 14th NW.

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, who has been conducting an educational series since May on the arguments being made to the Court, as well as other pro-life leaders will discuss the key arguments in Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health, and examine their implications for the 2022 midterm elections.

The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on Dec. 1. The case could lead to the reversal of the extremism of Roe v. Wade and abortion regulation returned to the states.

“For nearly 50 years no Supreme Court case has been the object of as much protest and criticism than Roe v. Wade,” Fr. Pavone said. “Mississippi passed a law that went further than what Roe allows because Roe has become obsolete, and that is what the Court is being asked to consider.

“Moreover, politicians are realizing that being pro-life is an electoral advantage now in America, as recent federal elections and the recent Virginia governor’s race have confirmed,” Fr. Pavone said.

Speakers at the press conference will include a woman who survived abortion, Melissa Ohden, as well as a mother, Cara Vest, who gave birth to a child who had been a frozen embryo. One of the unique briefs in this case is from the first human being to be adopted as a frozen embryo and born healthy.

Ultimately, a decision by the Court to allow states to decide whether abortion should be legal would have far-reaching consequences:

• 21 states have laws or constitutional amendments on their books that would lead to the protection of unborn children from abortion within their borders;

• An additional five states are ready to enact laws to protect most of these children;

• 11 states have laws protecting babies after a heartbeat is detected, but these laws have been blocked by various courts

• Four states have constitutions that do not recognize a right to abortion.
