TITUSVILLE, FL - A decision last week in the Iowa Supreme Court is a further indication of the kind of Constitutional common sense Americans need to restore, according to Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life.

The court ruled that abortion is not protected in the state constitution, leaving state legislators able to pass laws to protect the unborn and their mothers. The court overruled a lower court that in 2018 determined there was a right to abortion in the constitution.

“Just as the U.S. Supreme Court seems poised to do, by indicating that a ‘right to abortion’ is not in the federal Constitution, so too in Iowa we see the Court restoring the role of policy-making on abortion to the people’s elected representatives,” Father Pavone said. “This is as it should be, on both the state and federal level.

“Since the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision ‘found’ a right in the Constitution that everyone else missed for two centuries, abortion proponents have tried to escape the painstaking process of lobbying, persuading and lawmaking. But it’s time for that charade to end. Achieving a policy goal is not a matter of finding it already prepared on a Constitutional silver platter.

“Abortion supporters will no doubt continue trying this trick in other states. But it’s time for them to grow up, and if they think dismembering and decapitating babies is a good idea, they should make their case to the voters and lawmakers, and see if they can convince them. Good luck,” Father Pavone concluded.
