Priests for Life supports House bills to defund Planned Parenthood

TITUSVILLE, FL -- Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today hailed two bills introduced in the House of Representatives that would defund Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business.

Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-NC, introduced H.R. 296, the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act. This bill would codify President Trump’s Protect Life Rule that excludes abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, from receiving Title X funding. The bill also would increase reporting requirements for the Department of Health and Human Services for more transparency and accountability.

Rep. Vicky Hartzler, R-MO, introduced the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2019, which would place a one-year moratorium on federal funding for the abortion giant and increase funding for community health centers that do not perform abortions.

“It’s wonderful to see two women in the 116th Congress beginning this term with bills to protect the unborn and American taxpayers,” Father Pavone said. “As Planned Parenthood’s new CEO has admitted, abortion is at the core of the organization’s ‘mission.’ These bills would ensure that the majority of Americans who oppose taxpayer funding for abortion would not have to help fund the murder of more than 320,000 children a year.”

Fr. Pavone added, “Voters who elected Democrats to the House this past November made a big mistake, because the Democrat Party, now in meltdown mode, is out of touch with the American people and with basic human values as the party continues its unfettered support of abortion without limits, and funded by taxpayer dollars. The American people have never supported such an extreme policy.”
