Nearly 600 people of all ages gathered at the Spalding Pastoral Center in Peoria this weekend to explore threats to human life on many fronts and talk about what action steps they could take at the first-ever Diocese of Peoria Respect Life Conference.

The Saturday sessions drew 170 people to hear presentations by:

Kevin Burke, a licensed social worker and co-founder of Rachel’s Vineyard Ministries, who is also a pastoral associate of Priests for Life. He talked about “Tears of the Fisherman: Understanding Men and Abortion Loss.” While men may not acknowledge the pain of “lost fatherhood” that they have experienced, with or without their own involvement, it does play a role in future relationships, he said.
