Congressman Hyde served the people of Illinois in United States House of Representatives from 1975-2007. He was a vocal opponent to abortion and was the chief sponsor of the Hyde Amendment, a bill that prohibited the use of federal funds to pay for abortions.[1] He also stood in defense of life by arguing to override President Bill Clinton’s veto of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, remarking, “We are talking about life and death at their most elemental, and we ought to face the truth of what we oppose or support stripped of all euphemisms, and the queen of all euphemisms is ‘choice’ as though one is choosing vanilla and chocolate instead of a dead baby or a live baby…”[2]
