Dennis J. Horan was the Chairman of the Board of Americans United for Life, and his work for the right to life left a profound legal legacy.[1] In the legal battles that lead up to Roe v. Wade, Horan participated in the defense of life by filing briefs with the U.S. Supreme Court, arguing for life before the U.S. Supreme Court, and defending life in state based litigations. His defense of life significantly included medical data detailing the risks of abortion on women, information not previously detailed in legal documents. Eventually, Horan became a chairman on National Right to Life’s Legal Advisory Committee and aided in the drafting of a human life amendment to the U.S. Constitution. After establishing Americans United for Life, Horan litigated abortion cases to test the Supreme Court’s abortion doctrine, thereby clarifying the legal implications established by Roe v. Wade.[2]
