Tennessee will elect a Governor and a U.S. Senator in 2018.

General Election voter registration deadline – October 9, 2018

General Election date – November 6, 2018

Early voting –

In person –  Any voter may vote early in person, no excuse required. 

Early in-person voting is available for the General Election from October 17 through November 1, 2018.  

To find your early in-person voting location and hours, contact your County Elections

Commission. To contact your County Elections Commission, go to and click on your county.

By mail –  A voter may vote early by mail if he has a valid excuse. 

Valid excuses include: the voter will be outside his county of registration during the in-person early voting period (see above) and on Election Day; the voter or his/her spouse is a registered student at a college outside his/her county of registration; the voter’s doctor attests that the voter is not able to go to the polls; the voter is over 65; or the voter is disabled or the caregiver to a disabled person.

Applications to vote by mail must be received seven days before Election Day.

Absentee/vote-by-mail ballots must be returned by the close of polls on Election Day.
