H.R. 3279 – The Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act
H.R. 3279, the Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act, has been introduced
to correct yet another flaw in Obamacare.
Under the terms of the President’s health insurance law, it’s difficult for
the consumer to determine if a health care plan covers abortion. As
Congressman Chris Smith, the author of H.R. 3279, said, "a marketing secrecy
clause embedded in Obamacare" basically buries information on a plan’s
abortion coverage "in the fine print."
The Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act mandates truth in advertising.
Under the bill, any abortion coverage in health insurance plans offered
through Obamacare would have to be "prominently displayed in any marketing
or advertising materials, comparison tools, or summary of benefits."
On January 28, 2014, the text of the Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act
was added to H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, as an
amendment. The renamed H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and
Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act, was then passed by the House and
sent to the Senate.
Because the Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act was passed by the House
as part of H.R. 7, no further action on H.R. 3279 is expected.
