S. 51 – The Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act
S. 51 would “amend Title X of the Public Health Service Act to prohibit
family planning grants from being awarded to any entity that performs
abortions.”
If passed, the legislation would stop federal family planning funds from
being given to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.
According to a Government Accountability Office report, Planned Parenthood
received over $657 million in federal grants and contracts from 2002 to
2009, much of it through the Title X program. Planned Parenthood’s own
annual report for 2013 revealed that it received $528 million in federal and
state taxpayer funds in just that one year.
S. 51 is the Senate version of H.R. 217, which is also titled the Title X
Abortion Provider Prohibition Act.
