Topic: Blob of tissue
This just isn’t the right time for me to have a baby, so why can’t I get an abortion? Isn’t it just a blob of tissue?
Dear Jennifer,
Thanks for the question; it is one that I have been asked many times. When you become pregnant, you already have a baby. The question you are asking is whether you should kill the baby or let the baby live. This sounds harsh, but the reality remains that a newly conceived unique human being is in your womb and she will either live or die, just like all of us that are outside of the womb. Everyday, I work to keep patients from dying and respect their right to live in as healthy and pain free way possible. When a pregnant woman comes to me for treatment, I have two patients, the mother and the baby. I know that the baby is a living human being and not just a blob of tissue because it fulfills all the criteria for being a human. The new baby has a unique set of DNA, she is the member of a species that has the ability to reproduce, she gets energy from an outside source, and if she is provided food and safety, she will grow and think and live as a human being. Jennifer, your baby is not just a blob of tissue, she is a living human that has been specifically designed and created by God and He has given her the right to life in the same way He has granted this to all of us.
