NATIONAL PRO-LIFE RELIGIOUS COUNCIL ISSUES STATEMENT ON PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION
RULING
Washington, DC, -- "The National Pro-Life Religious Council, a coalition of pro-life organizations from several major Protestant denominations as well as Roman Catholics, deeply regrets and deplores the failure of the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold Nebraska's reasonable and sensible ban on partial birth abortions. We view this as a tragic step taking us further down the road toward easy acceptance of infanticide and destroying the dignity and value of human life at virtually any stage of life or development." --A joint statement from the NPRC members
Individual Representatives from the NPRC:
"National Lutherans For Life is saddened by the US Supreme Court's decision in Stenberg vs. Carhart declaring unconstitutional the Nebraska ban on partial-birth abortion. The very things the court itself referred to as "gruesome"-- tearing off the limbs of children, crushing children's skulls, suctioning out children's brains -- they now have sanctioned as a protected right. This ruling makes it official; we are no longer a civilized society. May God have mercy." -- Rev. Dr. James 1. Lamb, Executive Director, National Lutherans for Life
"The Supreme Court has erred today in its failure to allow a ban on the partial-birth abortion procedure. The decision today no more settles the abortion dispute than did Roe v. Wade in 1973."
-- Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director, Priests for Life
"Today the Supreme Court had rendered a decision that is neither intellectually defensible nor morally acceptable. The Conservative Congregational Christian Conference joins the NPRC and all Americans who value life and societal sanity in reproving them. We pray to God for His mercy."
-- Rev. J Kirk van der Swaagh, Conservative Congregational Christian Conference (CCCC)
NPRC Vice President, Rev. Rob Schenck, is available for further comment.
