Father Frank Pavone: The Silence Ends Today

Priests for Life

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement today regarding the death of a young woman during a late-term abortion at the Germantown, Md., clinic of LeRoy Carhart.

“It has happened again. Another mother has been killed by so-called ‘safe and legal’ abortion. It happens constantly, in fact, but the abortion industry usually succeeds in covering it up. And even when they don't, the rest of us succeed in keeping it relatively quiet.

“That has to change today.

“Late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart began an abortion procedure a few days ago on a woman who was about 33 weeks pregnant. These abortions are legal, and he performs them at his killing center in Germantown, MD. Yesterday, she developed complications. The abortionist could not be reached. She was taken to the emergency room by private vehicle, and she died.

“Three things need to happen here. First, the state of Maryland has to shut down Carhart's killing business. Second, every person who cares about this needs to spread the word immediately about this tragedy, to awaken the consciences of our neighbors. This includes pastors speaking out about the harm abortion does, and it includes all of us telling the stories of those harmed and killed by abortion.

“Third, we need to redouble our efforts to mobilize people in the pro-life cause. If this latest tragedy isn't enough evidence that the time to end abortion is now, then what is?”

“No longer will we allow these women to remain unknown to the American public,” Father Pavone said. “The silence ends today.”

A Catholic all my life - attend Mass and Sacraments - opposed to abortion on demand - fully understand your zealotry, but you are going too far by asking anyone to leave the Church - your zealotry does not entitle you to stand between anyone and God or speak his judgment. Your actions may rouse your supporters but offends many who support your cause but not "stupid-anger."

It has happened again. Another mother has been killed by so-called "safe and legal" abortion. (A 33 week pregnancy abortion!)
Why isn’t it getting the same press as all the gun shootings???
Isn’t the pressure for gun control to save our children?? There’s a good chance that a premature baby at 28 weeks would survive-why don’t we focus on these children???!
“I personally wouldn’t have an abortion but we don’t have the right to impose our values”---I personally wouldn’t have a gun but now I’ll impose my values and stop you from having one!!!!! Hypocrisy--we pick and choose whatever suits us!!!
If there was a “safe” procedure that hundreds of men were dying from...then maybe policies would change and get press!
I'll pray and fast this Lent for a change of hearts and ask others to join me!

I saw in an article today that the girl has been identified and that she was Catholic. Worse, she was accompanied by her husband, her parents and her sister to the abortionist. I also see that a funeral mass is scheduled for her and the baby. "A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday 10am at Holy Name of Jesus in New Rochelle." I don't see how this girl could be permitted a Catholic funeral Mass. And wouldn't all those who accompanied her be excommunicated? This is both disgusting and heartbreaking.

I live in NE....another state where L. Carhart kills babies. There has been absolutely NOTHING on the news about this here, even after we have requested coverage. The media black-out stuns me. It also inspires me to work harder for the cause for life. Thank you for your courage and inspiration. Like-minds support me in tragic times such as this.
