Fr. Pavone stresses moral imperative to vote for life

Priests for Life

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Do the U.S. government and the Supreme Court have the authority to permit the killing of a baby?
That was the question Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, asked during a press conference yesterday at the National Press Club here.
During the event – titled Elections 2016: Moving to Higher Ground – Father Pavone was flanked by Catholic priests and a deacon as he stressed the moral imperative of voting, and voting for life.
“We are in the midst of a critically important election cycle,” Father Pavone said. “Voting is not only a right, it’s an obligation. It’s part of the responsibility that citizens have for the common good.”
Conceding that many voters are having difficulty choosing between two flawed candidates for president, Father Pavone said “we have to look beyond what might be immoral about their behavior and to what is immoral about their policies. Every candidate needs to answer the question of whether they believe the government has the authority to permit the killing of babies.”
Noting that the gruesome reality of late-term abortion was described during the final presidential debate Oct. 19, he said it’s clear that one candidate believes the government does have that authority, while the other believes the barbaric practice must stop.
“I am not a Republican and I am not a Democrat,” Father Pavone said. “But I know that no government can authorize such a thing.”
Father Pavone issued a challenge to clergy across the nation, and across denominational lines, to speak to their congregations honestly about what abortion is, what it does the child, and how it wounds the mothers who make the irrevocable choice. And he urged voters to recognize that ending abortion is not just one issue among many.
“There are many important issues. Any issue impacting human life is important,” he said. “But no other issue has the same gravity, the same pull on our conscience, as the legal killing of children. Any candidate, any party that stands for legal abortion, as Pope Saint John Paul II has written, believes in "a tyrant state" (Evangelium Vitae, 20). We cannot vote in a way that allows this practice to continue.”

Until your church jails your pedophile priests, you have NO moral authority!

Thank you father from the bottom of my heart for speaking out against this horrendous crime & protecting the rights of the unborn. I must confess I left the Catholic Church because of their silence on this issue. I asked my pastor on the eve of the 2008 election why did he not ask the congregation to vote for life. His response to me was, If I said that, then I would have to speak out against capital punishment. I was so taken back by his response & the more I thought about it the more I felt it was just an excuse to do nothing. Each Sunday after that when I went to church, I felt I was walking into another universe that was so alien from what was actually going on in our society & in time I just stopped going.
It is the government who hijacked religion. God created the sacrament of marriage. Therefore who is man to redefine what God created. God created life & to take that life is against one of his commandments.
Pastors/priests will not speak out for fear of losing their tax exempt status. When our founding fathers referred to the separation of church & state the actual intend is that the government shall not favor one religion over another. The founders did this because their king declared the state religion was the king's version of the bible & the founders felt the people had the right & not a king or a government to chose their right to worship as they wished.

God walk with you.
