Urge U.S. Senators to Stop Abortion Funding in Obamacare

I’m sure you remember when the Affordable Care Act - better known as Obamacare - was being debated in Congress in 2009. Pro-life advocates were told repeatedly that abortion would not be covered by insurance.
We recognized a lie when we heard it but yet the bill was signed into law in March 2010.
Since 1976, the Hyde Amendment has protected American taxpayers from watching their hard-earned money pay for most abortions. One of the ways Obamacare was able to do an end run around the Hyde Amendment was to allow insurance exchanges offered in each state to cover abortion. Twenty-five states allow this coverage, creating a convenient loophole for abortion profiteers.
Now U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley is vowing, “No more loopholes.”
The Missouri Republican last week introduced a bill that would ban coverage of abortion - as well as gender transition “treatments” for minors - on all insurance exchanges.
The bill, called Prohibiting Abortion & Transgender Procedures on the Exchanges Act, writes the language of the Hyde Amendment directly into the federal coverage terms of health plans, and prohibit exchanges from offering any health plans that provide coverage of abortion, except for in cases of rape or incest, or if the mother’s life is at risk.
Exchanges also would be prohibited from offering any health plans that provide coverage of gender transition procedures or drugs for minor children.
This is an important bill that needs to pass while we have pro-life majorities in the House and Senate and a pro-life president in the White House.
