Celebrate the Day of the Unborn Child on March 25

March 25, 2026

Dear Friends,

Catholics around the world annually celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation on March 25, when Mary was told she would be the Mother of God. The day is nine months to the day before Christmas, when Jesus was born.

In various parts of the world, March 25 is also observed as the “Day of the Unborn Child.”

For several years now, a coalition of national pro-life organizations has been urging Americans to do exactly that — to take some extra time on this day to reflect, pray, and honor the unborn child.

The idea that the time is right for a “Day of the Unborn Child” in America makes sense when you look at the trajectory of our Constitutional history.

History moves toward the recognition of the equal dignity of those who, at various times, were deprived of their rights and suffered violence that was given legal cover under a different name. This legal cover was often mistakenly recognized by the Supreme Court for a while, but then such decisions were overturned.

Dred Scott v. Sandford (1856) is the most commonly cited instance. The slaveholder's right to property eclipsed and subsumed the slave's right to freedom. But the Constitution was eventually amended to correct the error.

In 1973, Roe v. Wade gave legal cover to the murder of the innocent unborn. But in 2022, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health overturned Roe and allowed states to protect their most vulnerable citizens. But not all states do - far from it. Babies are dying in abortions that are legal up until birth and that is not only a tragedy, it is an outrageous crime.

Will you join me and my team at Priests for Life by helping to spread awareness of the Day of the Unborn Child?
