Pray for our nation as our elections get under way

Dear Friends,
Like me, I know you understand that prayer is never a last resort. It is the first resort. It’s how we should start and end our days, and there’s always time throughout the day for a quick prayer of thanks or a heartfelt conversation with God. Prayer is our foundation. “Without me,” Jesus said, “You can do nothing.”
With the all-important midterm elections well underway – primaries are in the home stretch and seven states have early voting beginning in September! – prayer is our most important tool.
Every race, on every level of government, is consequential. We need not only to keep a pro-life majority in the House and Senate; we need to expand those majorities. We need to wrest state control from abortion-loving governors in Arizona, Illinois and other states.
We need the correct votes in the four states – Virginia, Nevada, Idaho and Missouri – that have referendums on abortion, and we need voters in Kansas to choose correctly on an amendment that would change the way supreme court justices in the state are chosen. That court has ruled against pro-life laws in many instances.
In short, we need pro-life victories at every level of government in every state.
The results of a recent poll were encouraging. For the 2026 congressional midterms, the April Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll found that among likely midterm voters, the generic congressional ballot was tied at 50 percent for Republicans and Democrats. On its face that might not seem like great news but the 50/50 split actually indicates a big Republican lead, because of the large number of Democrat-majority districts outside the swing districts. If, for instance, you have a district that’s 90 percent Democrat, half of those votes are extraneous to victory in that district, because you only need 50 percent plus one to win. So the generic ballot always has to be understood as showing the Democrats several points higher than they actually are.
This and many other reasons should give us confidence about the midterms, encouraging us to work even harder for victory and refusing to believe the “gloom and doom” predictions that come sometimes even from our own side of the aisle.
And while we’re working hard for victory, we need to be praying. I know I can count on you.
