Prolife Study Resources for Your Parish this Fall

Dear Friends,

God has spoken to the world. We as Christians know that the fullness of revelation comes in Jesus Christ (see Heb. 1:1-3) and that we have to be able to explain that revelation (see 1 Peter 3:15).

In our Catholic tradition, the law of the Church says, “Lay persons are bound by the obligation and possess the right to acquire knowledge of Christian doctrine…” Canon 229 §1 of the Code of Canon Law

You can see from the text above that the Church is quite explicit that Catholics have a responsibility to learn and deepen their understanding of the faith. This knowledge enables the laity to live the faith, proclaim it and even defend it when necessary.

St. John Paul II's document Christifideles Laici emphasizes the continuing formation of lay Catholics so that we can fulfill our vocation and mission in the Church and the world.

And as St. Jerome famously said, “Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.”

Studying the Catholic faith is important because it helps us understand what we believe and why we believe it. Faith is not meant to be something we simply accept without thought; it is something we are called to know, understand, and live out. Learning about Scripture, Church teachings, the sacraments, and the truths handed down from Jesus and the apostles deepens our relationship with God and strengthens our trust in Him.

It enables us to understand the moral battles of our day – first and foremost over abortion. Every aspect of our faith strengthens our understanding of why and how we must defend the unborn.

And, of course, knowing our faith equips us to share it. At times we will be asked questions about our beliefs - particularly our prolife beliefs - by friends, family members, or classmates. Studying gives us the knowledge and confidence to explain our beliefs respectfully and clearly.

At Priests for Life, we have numerous resources to help people study and understand our faith. These can be used by parish study groups or by individuals, if you prefer to learn on your own.

When you click this link, you will be taken to a page where you can tell us that you are interested in learning about our study guides, and you will find links to those resources.

(If you know others who would be interested in this email, please forward it to them!)
