St. Martha Feast Day is July 29th
Sister of Lazarus and Mary (traditionally identified as Mary
Magdalene) Martha was a disciple of Jesus, who visited her
several times in her home in Bethany. The Gospels refer to her
three times: the episode of the raising of Lazarus; when she
complained that Mary, intent on listening to the words of
Jesus, was not helping with the domestic chores; and just
before the Passion, when she and Mary entertained Jesus at
dinner. Her cult was born in Provence with the finding of her
presumed relics in 1187. She is depicted with a bucket and
aspergillum or with utensils for the care of the home.

Name: Martha is from the Aramaic and means “mistress, lady”.
