TITUSVILLE, FL - Priests for Life National Director Frank Pavone and Executive Director Janet Morana commented today on two decisions just issued by the Florida Supreme Court.
In one of them, the Court has upheld the law limiting abortion in Florida to 15 weeks. In doing so, the Court rejected Planned Parenthood’s assertion that the Florida Constitution guarantees a privacy right that includes abortion.
The Florida Court relied heavily on the fact that the US Supreme Court has reversed Roe vs. Wade.
The Florida Court also will allow a pro-abortion referendum to appear on the ballot in November, asserting a right to abortion that is essentially unlimited.
“As we have already been doing, so we will continue to do, which is point out to Floridians that this ballot measure is far too extreme and does not reflect the will of residents in a state that has already approved two laws protecting babies from abortion,” Pavone said. “A state that endorses a Heartbeat bill does not want taxpayer-funded abortion throughout pregnancy. That’s the message we will continue to spread.”
Mrs. Morana, who also is co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, said any expansion of abortion increases the number of mothers who are physically or emotionally damaged by the procedure.
“We know that abortion hurts women and we know that residents of our state want to protect as many babies and mothers as we can,” she said. “The confusing wording of this ballot amendment masks the reality of what will happen if it’s passed: More mothers – including those from out of state - making a choice that comes with lifelong consequences.”
