Prolife Leader Frank Pavone, National Director of the Titusville-based Priests for Life, issued the following statement today:
“The first thing I will do on the morning of Wednesday, May 1 will be to kiss the ground in Florida. With the Heartbeat Protection Act going into effect, Florida is now safer for unborn children than at any time in the last 50 years.
“It is not extreme to protect children. The younger they are, the more protection they need.
“We are living under a mass delusion in the world today, a mass psychosis, that somehow pretends that a baby isn’t a baby. It’s like saying a man isn’t a man or a woman isn’t a woman.
“The babies this law protects, starting at 6 weeks of pregnancy, have hearts at that point that have already beat over a million times. Their liver, gall bladder, pancreas and trachea have already begun developing, and the five main sections of the brain are visible. (You can view the baby in living color at www.ChildrenBeforeBirth.com.)
“This law also requires that those performing an abortion in Florida be doctors. The law also provides tens of millions of dollars to help moms have their babies, something that the vast majority of American voters think is a very good idea (see www.AbortionSurvey.org).
“Defenders of life rightly celebrate today. And we will defend the will of Florida citizens and their lawmakers against the fanatics who will try to block this law with Amendment 4 in November. That amendment would take away protection from babies and safety measures from moms who have abortions. It would allow non-doctors to perform abortions throughout pregnancy and would prohibit Floridians from protecting unborn children and their moms from abortion in the future.
“Talk about extreme. Fortunately, we will defeat those who are trying to destroy the women and children of this state.”
