TITUSVILLE, FL --Priests for Life reiterated today its solidarity with all those in Arizona who are fighting Proposition 129, the Right to Abortion Initiative. Last week the Secretary of State certified the signatures needed to place it on the November ballot.
National Director Frank Pavone stated, “News articles about the proposition described it as ‘putting a key issue directly before voters.’ Unfortunately, voters will have no such privilege. Abortion proponents, in Arizona and in the other states proposing these amendments, actually hide the issue from the voters.”
Pavone pointed to another article that quotes the group Arizona for Abortion Access as being “deeply disappointed” in the recent Arizona Supreme Court ruling allowing the words “unborn human being” to appear in a state-issued pamphlet about Prop 129.
“This is true to style,” Pavone pointed out. “It was the Court, not the pro-abortion groups, that took a step of honesty to clarify for voters what is at stake here. This is not without precedent, because years ago, the Eighth Circuit, in Planned Parenthood v. Rounds, allowed a South Dakota provision to stand that required abortionists to tell patients that abortion terminated the life of “a whole, separate, unique, living being.”
Priests for Life will continue to work with all Arizona citizens who are interested in an honest debate this Fall about Proposition 129, and who respect the will of Arizona citizens as already expressed through their legislators to protect the unborn starting at 15 weeks.
