Priests for Life National Director Frank Pavone today commented on Montana joining the list of states where voters will have pro-abortion amendments on the ballot in November.
“Montana has become the ninth state where abortion advocates hope to do an end run around democracy and invent a so-called right to abortion in the state constitution,” Pavone said. “At Priests for Life, we are actively involved in fighting back against these amendments in all the states that have them, including Montana.
“When Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022 and regulation of abortion returned to the people and their elected representatives, the Court invited the American people to engage on the abortion issue with a robust debate that the Courts would not short-circuit.
“But abortion proponents want to short-circuit it anyway. They want to take the issue out of the hands of the people again, and cement it in the state Constitutions, leaving no room for either courts or legislatures to protect the unborn.
“This is because the abortion advocates are afraid that such a debate will expose the violence of abortion and cause people to reject it. Instead, they want to cloak it in soundbites about reproductive freedom that people will want to protect.
“Policy-making in America should be based on honest debates, not cowardly dodges, and the people of Montana know that. I’m confident they can defeat the Right to Abortion Initiative (CI-128), which has no basis whatsoever in the history of the Montana Constitution.”
