TITUSVILLE, FL -- Priests for Life, one of the world’s largest pro-life organizations, stands firmly and publicly against Nevada’s Question 6, the Right to Abortion Initiative.
This initiative takes the so-called “right to abortion” to a level higher than any state constitution or our federal constitution has taken it before, until the last few years, calling it “fundamental,” and hence beyond all but the most limited intervention by the state.
The amendment says the abortion right shall not be “burdened.” Yet for decades we have witnessed how similar language used by the U.S. Supreme Court has not given clarity to what that means, but instead has led to endless, confusing and self-contradictory litigation, as the Courts try to figure out how far reasonable people can go in protecting children from abortion, and mothers from its harmful effects, not to mention the rights of parents in regard to their children, or the rights of taxpayers who don’t want to pay for someone else’s abortion.
Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom President Lindsey Harmon has said, “The majority of Nevadans agree that the government should stay out of their personal and private decisions ... about our bodies, our lives and our futures.”
That’s a pretty self-serving way of trying to win the argument: just completely ignore the other factor in the debate, that is, the second life that’s ended when those “personal and private decisions” are made. The people of Nevada are smarter than that.
Priests for Life is calling on all citizens in Nevada to join in an evening of prayer we are sponsoring on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. PT on EndAbortion.TV (and its linked social media and video-sharing platforms). The intention of these prayers is for the defeat of this initiative and of similar measures in nine other states. State and national leaders will speak and pray on the broadcast.
Likewise, citizens are invited to learn more about these extreme abortion ballot measures through the series Fight the Abortion Ballot Initiatives, also airing on EndAbortion.TV each Thursday evening at 5 p.m. PT.
