TITUSVILLE, FL - Priests for Life National Director Frank Pavone said he stands with North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley as he appeals a judge’s ruling that the state law protecting most babies from abortion is unconstitutional.

“The people of North Dakota, through their elected representatives, sought and passed a law that fits their beliefs about the sanctity of life,” Pavone said. “A single judge shouldn’t have the last word on an issue that literally determines who lives and who dies.

“Moreover, this ruling is inconsistent with current abortion jurisprudence. Thanks to Dobbs, courts all over the nation have been upholding pro-life laws, under the ‘rational basis’ standard. In other words, pro-life laws enjoy a presumption of validity as long as they are reasonably related to a legitimate state interest.

“And as for state constitutions, as Dobbs also points out, no state constitution’s text, history or interpretation has recognized a “right to abortion” until now. And there’s no reason to start now.

“I’m confident the judge will be overturned on appeal and sanity will be restored in North Dakota,” Pavone concluded.
