TITUSVILLE, FL - Priests for Life National Director Frank Pavone remains confident that a federal court will end the distribution of the abortion drug mifepristone through the mail, despite a disappointing order from the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday to temporarily allow the deadly pill to continue to be dispensed by online providers and to be sent through the mail.
The 7-2 order, with Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissenting, sends the case back to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, which is hearing a challenge brought by Louisiana. The state says its law protecting most babies from abortion is broken every time a mother aborts her child with mifepristone she received in the mail
“It was obviously a wrong decision. But this is still temporary,” Pavone said. “What’s at issue is, should the mailing of these drugs be stopped while the court considers whether the FDA acted the wrong way in taking away the safety regulations in place for mifepristone. That question is still open and I believe, in the long run, the court will rule the right way.
“At the same time, the Trump administration is still working on gathering solid scientific research about the negative effects of this drug. All of this is leading to the eventual withdrawal of this deadly drug from the market.
“We have to be patient. We have to be vocal. But we have to understand that the Supreme Court order is not a final decision.”
