SCRANTON -- A nationally recognized advocate of pro-life causes will keynote the annual Respect for Life Prayer Breakfast of the Scranton Chapter, Pennsylvanians for Human Life, on Saturday, Jan. 26, beginning at 9 a.m., in Genetti Manor, Dickson City. Reservations will close Jan. 21.
Janet A. Morana, personal assistant to Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, will tell about her extensive travels throughout the U.S., giving pro-life training seminars for the laity and her experiences as a representative of Priests for Life at various local and national pro-life conferences. She also serves the organization as staff administrator.
Involved in pro-life activities the past 12 years, the Brooklyn, N.Y., native attended Catholic schools in that borough and received her bachelor's degree in foreign languages from St. Francis College. In 1990, she was awarded a master's degree in education from the College of Staten Island. In 2000, she earned a professional diploma in reading from St. John's University, graduating with several awards for academic excellence.
Married since 1975 and the mother of three daughters, Mrs. Morana served as a full-time public school teacher in Staten Island, N.Y., for 11 years. During that time, she spearheaded numerous literary, science, cultural and educational programs, winning many awards and financial grants for her school district.
A certified CCD teacher, she is a Eucharistic Minister at St. Charles Parish and a former member of the executive board of the Staten Island Right-to-Life Committee. In 1990, she ran for New York City Council on the Right-to-Life Line and received the largest percentage of votes of any Right-to-Life candidate in the Party's history. Reservations for the breakfast are priced at $12 for adults and $6 for children.
