St. Stephen's Grand Island, invites Father Pavone to speak

GRAND ISLAND—Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, has been invited to the Western New York area by the Respect Life Committee of St. Stephen's Parish in Grand Island.

Father Pavone, who will be in town from May 11 through 14, will speak at all of the Masses at St. Stephen's on the weekend of May 13 and 14.

He will also be the guest speaker at a pro-life rally sponsored by Last Call Ministries at St. Luke's Mission of Mercy (the former St. Luke's Church) in Buffalo on Friday, May 12.

Also, on Mother's Day, May 14, Father Pavone will speak at the 18th annual International Mother's Day Walk for Life from Niagara University to the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls.

Walkers from the United States and Canada will meet in the middle of the bridge for the ceremony of the roses.

Father Pavone was born in 1959 in Port Chester.

After attending public schools, he was trained by the Salesians at Don Bosco College Seminary in Newton, N.J., from 1976 to 1981.

He received a bachelor's degree in philosophy and teacher certification in math, English, and classical languages.

From 1981 to 1984, he served in various sectors of lay ministry with special emphasis on teaching theology to adults and doing pro-life work. He was involved in the charismatic and ecumenical move meets.

He studied at St. Joseph's Seminary in Dunwoodie and was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of New York by Cardinal John O'Connor in 1988.

Being involved in pro-life work, Father Pavone served on the Vicariate Respect Life Committee.

He produced a regular Catholic television show for cable television, wrote on Catholic doctrine, and took numerous other initiatives in Catholic and pro-life apostolates.

In 1993, Father Pavone became national director of Priests for Life, an association of Catholic priests who give special emphasis to promoting and defending the sanctity of life. As national director, Father Pavone travels throughout the country preaching and teaching against abortion and helping other priests to do the same.

He has appeared on the Eternal Word Television Network teaching on moral theology. He has also authored several widely-distributed pro-life brochures, some of which have appeared in Catholic and pro-life journals.
