July 14, 1994 Father Frank Pavone, a priest of the archdiocese who is national director of Priests for Life, brought home messages to young people and priests from Mother Teresa, whom he visited at the motherhouse of her Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India, June 18 to 21. Father Pavone said Mother Teresa gave a message of encouragement to the youth of America to be active in fighting abortion, and she expressed her desire that priests not hesitate to teach and preach on the sanctity of life. She also encouraged priests to enroll in "Veronica Intercessory," a prayer partnership in which a Missionary of Charity sister prays for them personally. She asked that priests distribute in their parishes copies of her February speech at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., at which she condemned abortion and contraception. During his four day visit, Father Pavone celebrated Mass for the sisters, gave two talks on the pro-life movement and had several personal meetings with Mother Teresa.
