KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The niece of one of America's most influential freedom fighters is spreading her message in East Tennessee.
Dr. Alveda King, kin to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is on a national campaign with the Pro-Life Freedom Ride. Friday King and other pro-life leaders will take the stage at the Tennessee Theatre for an evening of song and prayer. Fr. Frank Pavone, the national director for Priests for Life, will also be on the tour.
The event is free and open to the public. It begins at 7 p.m.
Saturday's events begin outside Planned Parenthood, then the group will continue in a caravan to Chattanooga to the National Memorial for the Unborn.
Dr. King told Volunteer TV the pro-life movement is the "civil rights movement of our time."
She said her uncle's message against oppression continues today, "He said that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, so it's a threat to justice to take the life of a little baby in the womb."
