RH Reality Check is the antithesis of LifeNews — it is a place for pro-abortion bloggers to spout off their misinformation and pro-abortion mantras. But one blogger has gone far enough to catch the attention of pro-lifers for how far off the mark her post is on the subject.
Nynia Chance of Nexus of Now Media posted her wild-eyed claims on how she believes the Bible is not pro-life on the issue of abortion. Below are some snippets from her column:
The War on Women has been especially effective in getting many to feel as though Christians need to march in lockstep against the idea of allowing abortions of any type to ever be legal, to the point of criminalizing miscarriage, itself. Those who try to conscript religious Christians into this war do so under the argument that the Bible itself demands such a prohibition.
Except that it doesn’t. The Bible never once specifically forbids abortions; it’s actually quite the contrary! Not only were methods of abortion well-known at the time, there’s times when the Bible states God commands that one take place. I’m going to walk through a few examples as illustrations.
Chance puts forward a handful of Old Testament stories she claims indicate the Bible acknowledges abortion as necessary, okay or, at minimum a punishment for sin. She completely ignores the way in which Jesus Christ and his death created a New Covenant for Christians — making it so Christians are not bound by or required to fulfill each and every Old Testament requirement.
Moreover, examples Chance provides are not necessarily the Lord’s opinion but reflect more on laws or customs at the time of the events rather than what is Biblically mandate or supported.
Father Frank Pavone talked with LifeNews about the article and noticed the same problems.
“The Bible teaches unequivocally that only God has dominion over human life; taking life or giving it is his decision, not ours. Our duty to defend life is seen in this great Biblical theme, as well as in the themes of justice for the helpless, self-giving love, the value of children, and God destroying death. Divorcing Biblical texts from Biblical themes can justify anything, as is seen in the efforts of the devil himself to quote Scripture to justify worshiping him,” the Priests for Life leader told LifeNews.
He continued: “The Bible clearly teaches that abortion is wrong. This teaching comes across in many ways and for many reasons. Some people point out that the word “abortion” is not in the Bible, and that is true. Nevertheless, the teaching about abortion is there. This is the case with many teachings. The word “Trinity” is not in the Bible, but the teaching about the Trinity is there. In any case, a person who wants to deny the teaching about abortion would deny it even if the word were there.”
