NEW YORK -- Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, released the following statement this morning:
“Priests for Life is happy to be one of the national co-sponsors of the protests to take place simultaneously at hundreds of Planned Parenthood locations across the nation on Saturday, October 10. In a
recent op-ed, I outlined the reasons.
“We who organize these protests are not a fringe group of fanatics. We represent the best of America, with compassion for those who feel they need to have an abortion -- not because of freedom of choice but because they feel they have no freedom and no choice. We who protest also support, throughout the year, the thousands of pregnancy centers that provide alternatives to abortion.
“Moreover, we who reject abortion do not reject those who have abortions; rather, we embrace them with mercy, forgiveness, and healing. We who protest support the numerous programs for healing after abortion. At many of the protest sites, women and men of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign (www.SilentNoMore.com) will share their testimonies of pain and healing after abortion, and invite others to healing.
“We who protest also believe that America will not reject abortion until America sees abortion. At these protest sites, we will show the reality of what abortion is and of what Planned Parenthood does to these babies.
“Finally, we who protest believe that we have to elect public servants who know the difference between serving the public and killing the public. We will not hesitate to call people to exercise their civic responsibility, both by lobbying Congress and the states to defund Planned Parenthood, and by voting pro-life in next year's elections.”
