An anti-abortion organization led by Catholic priests Tuesday urged Gov. Sam Brownback to sign legislation to clearly state midwives can’t perform abortions in Kansas and to place into statute a ban on Planned Parenthood receiving federal family planning money funneled through the state.

....

Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life in New York City, said he had faith Brownback would bless the bills to force greater control over the “highly unregulated and unscrupulous” practitioners of abortion services.

“Any legislation that prohibits this industry from sliding into even lower standards is urgently needed,” Pavone said. “As far as funding is concerned, family planning funds should be directed to helping family members — not killing them.”
