NEW YORK – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, noted that today marks the first of the final 100 days of the 2016 election, a campaign that will impact not just the federal executive and legislative branches, but the judicial as well.
“In 100 days, the world will have changed. Our nation will have made some monumental decisions regarding who its political leaders will be, at every level of government," Fr. Pavone noted. "Among other things, these decisions will impact the direction of the Supreme Court for another generation."
Priests for Life is already heavily involved in ensuring voter turnout in November through its Vote for Life Campaign -- PoliticalResponsibility.com. Training sessions are taking place on the ground in various states and will occur through webcasts as well. Volunteers are being trained to register voters, identify pro-life voters, distribute voter guides and drive people to the polls.
In the coming weeks, Priests for Life will publish its non-partisan comparison piece of the Republican and Democratic platforms, and after that, its non-partisan voter guide for the presidential race. These guides will be legally qualified for distribution in Churches.
A major interdenominational and non-partisan prayer campaign -- ElectionPrayer.com -- is also underway.
Fr. Pavone's book, Abolishing Abortion (Nelson Books, 2015) -- AbolishingAbortion.com -- is also a centerpiece of the election activities of Priests for Life. The book makes the case that abortion is the most fundamental and urgent moral issue, and challenges both the Church and the State to take concrete steps to protect the unborn.
"We face a watershed moment, one that all Americans, especially pro-life Americans, cannot let pass without closely examining the candidates and their party platforms, and taking action to vote and mobilize countless others to vote," Fr. Pavone said. "This is not an election for anyone to be on the sidelines."
