WE CAN’T SEE in the dark! We have Lights everywhere: – Lights on cars at night. We have Lights in Ovens, Microwaves & Refrigerators. We have Porch Lights, Street Lights, Search Lights & Light Bulbs, Theater Lights on Billboards & in Closets, Flashlights & Car Headlights extra bright..all kinds of Lights! Only when we have a POWER FAILURE.....do many people begin to appreciate the POWER of the IMAGE Our Lord uses in today’s Gospel.
IN OUR LORD’S TIME...when the SUN set...it really was DARK....& so Our Lord directs directs our attention to all those...MINDS lacking Faith & Spirit. Christ is really saying...how foolish, how ridiculous it would be to FIND FAITH....to realize the BEAUTY & POWER of things Spiritual & hide all of them from everyone! Our Lord tells us in MT 5:16...”even so let your Light shine before men.....in order that they may see your good works...& give glory to your Father in Heaven.”
THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE in this modern world of ours who Hide their Faith......perhaps because they lack the knowledge that they should have.....or feel they cannot fully explain things properly, or they may be too embarrassed...& don’t know what to say. Our Lord tells us in MK 4:21-25....”you do not buy a lamp to be put under the couch. Is it not rather to be put upon the Lamp Stand?” “For there is nothing hidden that will not be made manifest....nor is anything concealed that will not come to light.”
AT SOME GIVEN MOMENT we may be the only person...to help the Light of Faith...& Love of God & Church...to shine forth in the darkness of someone’s Heart, Mind & Soul. It is a terrible & helpless feeling at times...to wander aimlessly in Life without God & Grace....Also without the Peace, Serenity & Certitude...that comes to those...who try each day to seek the...BEAUTY & TRUTH of God, Heaven & the Spiritual.
OUR LORD TELLS HIS DISCIPLES:.....”you are the Light of the world...& the Salt of the Earth. “Don’t hide the Light of your Good Works under a Bushel Basket. NO, SAYS CHRIST: “Let them shine forth so that ALL may See your Good Works.........AND give Glory to your Father in Heaven.”.
AND SO BE DRAWN CLOSER TO GOD, CHURCH & HEAVEN."
