TODAY WE HEAR in St Luke’s Gospel...LK 14: 15-24...about all the EXCUSES....given by those who
were invited to a Great Supper:....One said I have bought a Farm....&..... I must go out to see it.
Another said I have bought Five Oxen.... & I am on my way to try them.
ANOTHER SAID I have Married.... &... so I cannot come. Then the Master of the House said.....
“Go quickly into the streets... .& Lanes of the city...&... bring in here the poor....the crippled....
....the Blind.....&...the Lame.....so that my house may be filled...for I tell you that none of those
invited shall taste of shall taste of my supper.”
OF COURSE THIS STORY reminds us of Ourselves...who give very poor....&...often exaggerated
excuses for what we do. There are those who.....have accepted the Faith...&...then tossed it away
....by choosing SIN. Christ said many times over...that those who FREELY choose GRAVE (Mortal)
Sin...&...continue to persist in such Evil...shall NOT enter the Kingdom of GOD!
NOTE: the word Grave means Mortal. They are co-extensive & synonymous terms!
THERE ARE CATHOLICS....who no longer attend Mass on Sundays & Holy Days...nor receive the
Sacraments...for many Months...even many Years. Others REJECT one or more Commandments
of God....or Fundamental Teachings of the Church or Pope!
THE EXCUSES GIVEN are One....or a Combination of reasons such as: I don’t like it, enjoy it, or get
anything out of it.... nor have I Experienced it, or Understand it. POOR excuses such as these...are
the very same.... as those offered by Humanity since Time began! ADAM said EVE tempted him.
EVE said the DEVIL tempted Her. Then GOD replied then....” you have disobeyed my Commandment.”
FEEBLE EXCUSES are given for not attending Parish Devotions. Others receive Communion...& walk
right out the door. There are bad habits of cursing & swearing, Stealing, Sins against Marriage
Chastity, Purity. Some don’t seem to know what the word MODESTY means! NOTE THIS: The Swiss
Guards at the front Entrance to St Peter’s Basilica in Rome.....STOP All who do not meet the Dress
Code! No one may enter with Summer wear...as though they’re coming from the Beach...yet many
try every day...& even argue with the Guards!
MANY DON’T even TRY to be....Good, Avoid Vice....&...Grow in Virtue! TO CORRECT all these modern
Day Problems...one needs to have:....more Moral Courage, Perseverance, Dedication, Self-Sacrifice,
more Prayer...&...Frequent reception of the Sacraments...&...of course Knowledge of our Catholic Faith.
ANYONE WHO has been making Poor Excuses for themselves...needs to LISTEN to St Luke’s Gospel...
LK 14:15-24....&....To.....PRAY HARDER. BETTER...&...MORE OFTEN....
ASK OUR LORD & OUR LADY.....&...FAVORITE SAINTS FOR HELP..
.....SO AS TO NOT FOOL ONE’S SELF.......ANY LONGER...
....BY MAKING POOR EXCUSES....
