A new Right to Life building will soon be opening right across the street from a Planned Parenthood in Springfield.

This move comes after Planned Parenthood announced it will perform surgical abortions one day a week.

On Saturday, Right to Life supporters rallied in front of the location on Bruns Lane and held a prayer vigil.

The national director of Priests for Life led the prayer.

He says the new location across from Planned Parenthood will give women more options.

"To encourage the local pro-life community to be even stronger in their compassion for moms and dads and for unborn babies who have the right to life," said Father Pavoen, national director of Priests for Life.

Springfield Right to Life says it doesn't have a set date to open, but there will be a soft opening sometime next month.

Diamond Shapiro, Interim CEO of Planned Parenthood Illinois, said, "Access to health care is very important to us at Planned Parenthood of Illinois. In the past, there have been very few options for women seeking abortion services in the Springfield area. Abortion services are time sensitive. Offering these services in Springfield helps patients access them in a timelier manner. Women should not have to drive over 100 miles to get the care they need. Patients should be able to access the healthcare they need without fear of intimidation or harassment. Planned Parenthood is proud to provide expert reproductive health care in Springfield, just as we have been doing here for the past 78 years. And, we are committed to providing excellent health care to our patients for many years to come."
