President Trump has taken action within the boundaries of his authority to protect children born alive after abortion, Priests for Life National Director Father Frank Pavone said today.
“Throughout his term, President Trump has urged Congress to send him a bill protecting babies born alive after failed abortions. Current protections in the law are inconsistent and insufficiently enforced. Republicans in the House and Senate have supported bill to expand these protections. But House and Senate Democrats have consistently blocked it.
“This is baffling and reprehensible.
“How can Democrats claim to be able to govern when they cannot protect a little baby who is outside her mother’s womb and struggling for life?”
During the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast, held online today, President Trump announced that he would sign the Born Alive Executive Order to “ensure that all precious babies born alive, no matter their circumstances, receive the medical care that they deserve. This is our sacrosanct moral duty.” He also announced increased funding for neonatal care.
Father Pavone called the president’s surprise announcement ground-breaking.
“This president continues to build on his record as the most pro-life president the U.S. has ever elected,” Father Pavone said. “Today’s announcement will save the lives of our most vulnerable brothers and sisters. This needs to be a key factor in voters’ decisions in this election. Ask the candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives, and for the Senate, if they are willing to protect by law babies born alive after abortion.
“You will find Republicans saying yes, and Democrats saying no (or dodging the question.) Don’t let the Democrats get away with it.”
