Broken Dreams

I DREAMED I WAS A BUTTERFLY

AND FLUTTERED BY YOUR EAR

I HEARD YOUR WHISPERS AND YOUR SIGHS

YOU KNEW NOT I WAS NEAR

I DREAMED I WAS A HUMMINGBIRD

MY COLORS CLEAR AND TRUE

BUT YOU MY WINGBEATS NEVER HEARD

THOUGH I WAS CLOSE TO YOU

I DREAMED I WAS YOUR LITTLE CHILD

YOU HELD ME BY THE HAND

YOU SPOKE WITH MOTHER'S LOVE SO MILD

AS WE SKIPPED ACROSS THE LAND

I DREAMED THAT WE WOULD ONE DAY MEET

THOUGH WORDS WERE NEVER SPOKEN

NOW LOST AM I, YOU'LL NEVER GREET

THE CHILD WHOSE DREAMS WERE BROKEN

FOR YOU WOULD NOT SUPPORT MY LIFE

AND I FLOWED AS FROM A STREAM

TO PAIN AND ANGUISH FILLED WITH STRIFE

AND AN ENDING TO MY DREAMS

BUT NOW I LIVE ABOVE THE WORLD

IN A PALACE OF PURE GOLD

I'M HAPPY HERE WHERE COLORS SWIRL

AND IT'S NEVER EVER COLD

I WAIT FOR YOU AND ON THAT DAY

WHEN WE MEET FACE TO FACE

YOU'LL STAY WITH ME FOR I HAVE PRAYED

THAT YOUR SOUL BE FILLED WITH GRACE

THANK YOU, LORD
