WASHINGTON, D.C. - The new administration in the White House is taking Americans in a direction the majority do not want to go, Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said today.
“As pro-life leaders gather in our nation’s capital today for a scaled-down March for Life, we are aggrieved by Biden’s reversal of President Trump’s Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance,” Father Pavone said. “The policy, also known as Mexico City, ensured that U.S. funds used to fight health challenges like malaria and infant mortality overseas are not funneled to organizations like Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes that believe the solution to every problem is abortion.
“Of course we expected this from Biden, who though he has sold some Americans on the idea that he is a ‘devout Catholic’ remains as pro-abortion as anyone in the Democrat party,” he said. “And because we expected it, we are already mobilizing our supporters to challenge it by being in close contact with their elected leaders. The 2022 election season has begun, and the Democrats’ attempts to increase abortion both in the nation and overseas will not be met with silence.”
Father Pavone pointed to a new poll that found 77 percent of Americans – including majorities of Democrats and those who identify as pro-choice - oppose using U.S. aid money to fund abortion overseas.
“That’s a higher percentage than those who oppose government funding for abortion in the U.S.” Father Pavone pointed out. Six in 10 who responded to the Marist/Knights of Columbus poll said they do not want U.S. taxpayer fund to pay for abortion.
“The March for Life is a very different event this year because of the ongoing pandemic, but no one should assume there is any less commitment on the part of pro-lifers. Our resolve to end abortion is stronger than it’s ever been,” Father Pavone said.
“Also this morning in D.C., House Whip Steve and Rep. Ann Wagner reintroduced H.R. 619 the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. It has also been re-introduced in the Senate. Sadly, Democrats do not even want to vote on this bill which would protect babies born alive after a failed abortion. Republicans in Congress will work to protect every child who, as President Trump often mentions, is made in the holy image of God.”
