TITUSVILLE, FL -- “Democrats in the U.S. Senate have once again failed the American people,” Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said after an amendment based on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act failed to garner enough votes to advance.

The Senate voted 52-48 to advance the bill, eight votes short of the necessary 60-vote threshold. All Republicans voted for the bill and only Democrats Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania crossed the aisle to vote in favor. The amendment was one of hundreds attached to a $1.9 trillion Covid relief bill.

“As the Democrats well know, this is not an abortion bill,” Father Pavone said. “It is a life-saving bill that deals only with the newborn and has nothing to do with the baby’s mother. Nevertheless, Democrats continue to show their support for infanticide.”

Singling out Georgia’s two new senators, Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, Father Pavone said their partisan votes showed disdain for their constituents.

“The residents of Georgia did not put them in office to vote against babies born alive.”

Father Pavone echoed the words of Rep. Chris Smith, R-NJ, leader of the House Pro-Life Caucus, when he said pro-lifers in Congress will be “tenacious.”

“This is only the beginning of the battle in this new Congress,” Father Pavone vowed.
