As a national pro-life leader, Father Frank Pavone, Director of Priests for Life, is able to provide a unique perspective on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (HR 619), in regard to which a discharge petition is being introduced today in the House of Representatives.
Fr. Frank
  1. Has worked for decades in strategy sessions with people like Professor Hadley Arkes, a key architect of the strategy that led to the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act of 2002.

  2. Sent representatives of Priests for Life to the bill signing by President Bush of the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act.

  3. Can explain the need for the current bill despite that law.

  4. Was one of the key people who, two decades ago, assisted Nurse Jill Stanek to make her story public about being confronted directly with a baby born alive after abortion.

  5. Has worked with abortion survivors across the nation, hundreds of whom then joined the Abortion Survivors Network.

  6. Has assisted abortion survivor Melissa Ohden, who founded that network.

  7. Has collaborated with pro-life medical experts regarding the circumstances of these live births.

  8. Has been a key public spokesperson for the born-alive bills that have been introduced over the last several Congresses.

  9. Led a national lobbying day during the 116th Congress, bringing activists to Washington from around the country to support the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act

  10. Attended the special hearing Republicans had in the 116th Congress about the Born-Alive bill.

  11. Has worked with and assisted many ex-abortionists and clinic workers, who have firsthand stories about babies born alive during abortion.

  12. Was deeply involved in the Kermit Gosnell trial, which sheds light on the problem of babies born alive during abortions.

On Wednesday, April 14, Republicans will launch a discharge petition that with 218 signatures will move the bill despite the House leadership’s insistence on blocking it. Only a handful of Democrats will need to sign the petition.

H.R. 619 outlines the steps an abortionist must take if a child lives through an abortion, and contains penalties for failing to provide or obtain life-saving care for the infant.
