WASHINGTON, D.C. – Texas Sen. Bryan Hughes and Texas Right to Life Legislative Director John Seago, key people responsible for Texas’ Heartbeat Law, will accept a national recognition award Jan. 21 on behalf of every pro-life resident of their state.

At the National Prayer Service, held every year on the morning of the March for Life, those involved with the passage of SB 8, the Texas Heartbeat Act, will be honored for their efforts and will serve as stand-ins for every Texas resident who believes in the sanctity of life. Both honorees are expected to attend.

Seago said he is honored to be receiving the award from Priests for Life, the National Pro-Life Religious Council, and Faith & Liberty, organizers of the annual event.

"The enforcement of the Texas Heartbeat Act has given us a glimpse of what a post-Roe, abortion-free state will be like,” Seago said.  “Texas Right to Life was honored to advocate for Senate Bill 8 as one of our legislative priorities in the Texas Legislature in 2021."

The interdenominational prayer service will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Constitution Hall. Also being honored that day will be Mississippi Sens. Joey Fillingane and Angela Hill, and Rep. Beckie Currie, and Ohio resident Janet Porter, who is credited with pioneering the heartbeat movement.

The service is free, tickets are not required and large groups can be easily accommodated in the 3,700-seat historic Constitution Hall, located at 1776 D St. NW.

Co-sponsoring organizations for the service include National Institute of Family and Life Advocates and Life Issues Institute. There is still time for groups to sign up as co-sponsors.

“The Texas law began protecting babies all over the state the minute it was enacted, reflecting the will of a state whose residents understands that every human life is precious,” said Father Frank Pavone, president of the National Pro-Life Religious Council and national director of Priests for Life.

Media organizations not able to cover the event live can watch it at EndAbortion.tv.
